What does our Andhra University say about us?
When we think of Universities, what generally comes to mind is, imposing buildings, green lawns, old trees, a dignified island of academics. Peaceful, distinguished and clean. But, when it comes to Andhra University what comes to mind is ramshackle buildings, poor maintenance, filth and dirt.
Don't believe me? Just visit the
Convocation theater toilet. You would rather go in the bushes than go into the loo.

Andhra University Library Compound |
The famous
D.V.S. Krishna library is a poor imitation of its past. The structure needs urgent attention both inside and outside. Look around the lawns. A couple of vending carts have taken the role of a library cafeteria. Several people eat and drink here. Thousands of plastic tea cups and plates are scattered all over the compound. What type of people create the garbage? What type of people allow this hideous apology for a canteen to run here? Are they really academicians or uncouth uncultured pretenders?

Take a look at the once famous
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Assembly Hall. There are thousands of plastic plates, water sachets, cups scattered all over the compound. Why are there no garbage bins? Why is no one being fined for the mess? Do not the people who give this place on rent for events enforce any garbage disposal rules? Or are they illiterate and uncultured as well? It is a sacrilege to even name this hall after Ambedkar.

Take a walk down the
AU staff quarters. It looks like a vast slum. Clumsy shops, bad taste banners, garbage, broken houses, leaking sewage, stinking roads. Yet areas of it are given out for exhibitions and they add tons of filthy garbage to the already existing mess. Is this area orphaned for ever? Who exactly is responsible for this area?

See the garbage around the AU water reservoir. Says a lot about hygiene levels of this august body.

Where does the garbage go from the guesthouse ... well here it is right behind the guesthouse!

An University reflects the culture of the city where it is put up.
What is our Andhra University saying about us? Someone should be hauled over hot coals for this hideous state of affairs in our great university.
Comments
yes you have captured the sorry state of our academics as they have deteriorated over the years..Dr.S.Radhakrishna (our erstwhile President of India) also from this very university must be turning in his grave looking at these..
