Save this 250 year old historic heritage building

Dear Friend,

From the past two years several representations have been made to our city officials to have this historic heritage school building repaired. Every time the response has been favorable and sympathetic but there has been no forward movement. We all know that our officials are very very busy with other matters. This silly two and half century old building is not a priority for local administration. They have to look after so many important things like visiting and local dignitaries who go around the city with their sirens blaring attending one conference or the other. Who cares if the historic heritage building falls? Meanwhile our history is being lost.

Now they want to widen the main road to 100 ft from Jagadamba Jn. to Old
Post Office. If you remember the historic 1914 King Edward VII Coronation Market (Kurupam Market) was brought down by GVMC on 19 Nov 2013 without public consultation, stealthily and overnight, saying it was unsafe. (Read the story in the attached file) When asked, Satyanarayana the GVMC Commissioner at that time, said it was an oversight, that the endowments department was responsible and that it would be rebuilt. Ha! Now we are told that 30 shops will be built on the same Kurupam Market site for traders who are losing their shops due to the road widening. There is no mention of the re-building of the historic market building.

Is the Queen Mary's School building heading for the same fate? Will we let it die? Does the fact that no official is taking interest in repairing and restoring the QUEEN MARY’S SCHOOL BUILDING indicate some sinister motive? Are there dark plans to accelerate the death of this historic building and then reap real estate benefits from it?  Who is responsible? What political word rhymes with "sinister"?
While we have succeeded in several initiatives, we Vizagites generally protest after the deed is done. This time let us get together and let the authorities know that we want Queen Mary’s School to be repaired and restored. These guys spend crores on beach road events to please the powers that be ... perhaps they can spend Rs. 60 lakhs on saving our heritage.

A gathering of citizens is planned in front of Queen Mary's School in Old Town very soon. We plan to draw the attention of Vizagites to the issue at hand. We hope to bring it higher up in the administration's priority list. Social media will keep you informed. Kindly take a moment and pass this message on to those who may empathize with this cause. Know any alumni members? Please tell them also. Hope to see you there.
