D I S A S T E R !
Our beach road is already bursting at the seams. A once quiet place to enjoy the beauty of the sea and relax has become a 24X7 Mela. Loudspeakers blaring, protesters protesting, traffic crawling slowly, frequent traffic jams and the relentless press of humanity. We do not seem to understand the importance of quiet common areas.
On one hand GVMC with chosen beach road development consultants are working on plans to decongest our beach road and on the other hand bodies like VUDA and others are planning to take up a completely unnecessary project with our tax money.
There is no parking for the existing aircraft and submarine museum. Now we want to integrate the aircraft museum, the submarine museum and the Victory at Sea memorial at a humongous cost of Rs. 40 crores!
Meanwhile really important jobs that have been pending for years are ignored. For example our tourism department cannot find a few lakhs to print tourist guides for the tourist season.
The interpretation centre and the amenities at the ancient 3rd century BC Buddhist sites of Thotlakonda and Bavikonda are pending for more than a decade. The 9th Century AD Bojjanakonda Buddhist site is in a dilapidated condition.
All the ancient heritage sites in old town and the once pride of Vizag our 1904 Town Hall is crumbling. The whole area stinks.
Why can't we plant 500 grown endemic trees on the beach road by spending a small fraction of money going into projects like this? Our administration will be blessed now and for a 100 years from now by those enjoying the shade. It will also help enrich and firm up the soil in the area.
Araku is a filthy hell hole and there is not even one tourism run public amenity stop between Vizag and Araku where one can use the toilet, refresh ourselves and have a decent clean breakfast.
Our entire beach is drowning in plastics waste. Once pristene beaches have been destroyed. See attached picture.
Yet we stumble like drunkards from one event to another, from one project to another and in the process forget the real assets that we have. We are being governed by and plans are being made by those who have no clue as to what is really important for Vizag. Important officials who have arrived recently on the scene think they have all the solutions, unfortunately they are not a part of the solution. They are the problem personified.
Who ever came up with this idea of integrating the three attractions has been ill advised. It is our city, it is our taxes, we are Vizagites. The question is HOW CAN SUCH IDEAS BE FLOATED WITHOUT DISCUSSIONS WITH LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS? Who are these people taking decisions for us?
This proposal should be reconsidered immediately. We Vizagites must STOP THIS MADNESS before it is too late
